This is a nice classic photo. I remember that the dress is baby blue and the sparkly jacket is in varying shades of blue. It was always one of my favorite costumes that Lee Farrell, my mentor/vocal coach/manager/ and business partner designed back-in-the-day.

But I’m not the star of the photo. The piano is. This was not a photo set up. This was a place I played in Albuquerque, New Mexico in the 1970’s….. and the only place I’ve played in New Mexico. The people were very nice, and it’s quite an interesting place to see if you’ve never been there before. The problem was that there’s a reason the front is off of that piano. Once the notes have been played, many of the keys got stuck and I’d have to pull the hammers back out again in order for me to play the notes again and again. So you needed to have access to the insides at all times. You think I’m joking? It’s not a joke. Try doing that and trying to sing at the same time.

As if that wasn’t enough, I don’t know what I’m sitting on in that photo because that was after hours, but they didn’t have a piano bench for this piano so they’d either put two regular chairs on top of each other or put a phone book on a regular chair that I’d have to sit on until 9:00PM. In another room at that hotel there was a lady playing a grand piano (who apparently had more clout than me) and she got the real deal – meaning, REAL GRAND WITH REAL PIANO BENCH!

It seems like I had someone who visited my page not too long ago who said they’d heard me in Albuquerque. This would have been the place. Please tell me the year if you can. It’s been too long.

For all you young hopefuls who think being a performer is a very glamorous job, I beg to differ. A lot of “dues are paid”. But then again, I’m not sure today’s generation knows what that really means since so much seems to be instantaneous. Well, I guess that’s what this page is for. I’ll share a little bit of info here and there so keep checking back!
